The MASTS Graduate School is led by the Dean of Graduate Studies, supported by the Graduate School Steering Group (GSSG). The GSSG includes representatives from all MASTS institutions, who work together on the development of the Graduate School and operation of its activities.
Work of the Graduate School will focus on postgraduates who have been funded through the MASTS initiative: a mix of 'Institutional' PhD studentships and 'Prize' studentships. We aim, however, to make training programmes and seminars accessible to all students from the MASTS partners and to students from other institutions within Scotland wherever possible.
To enable widespread participation in activities and events throughout the year, the MASTS trainees will be encouraged to take advantage of video conferencing facilities in their home institutions.
The key training event will be in the form of an annual Summer School, in which all MASTS-funded trainees will be expected to participate. The event will run over several days and include student and keynote presentations, expert seminars, inter-theme discussion groups and transferable skills development activities. The quality and focus of the programmes will be commensurate with the goal of producing the next generation of leaders in marine science. Once established, the MASTS trainees will be expected to take ownership of this event and lead its organisation for future cohorts.
